Faithfulness in our present assignment and place of growth in God is what qualifies us for whatever comes next. God bypasses many “well-qualified” people on His way to finding a faithful son.
2 Kings 2:1-15 Elisha’s journey into his call
1-2 Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal
Gilgal= “rolling”
- Free from the shame of sin
- Total consecration to the Lord
2-4 So they went down to Bethel.
Bethel= “house of God”
- Experiencing God’s presence
- Experiencing God’s power
4-6 So they came to Jericho
Jericho= ”His Fragrance”
- first fruits of victory/ ministry
- Consecrated to the Lord
7 the two of them stood by the Jordan
Jordan= “the descender” (the lowest river on earth)
- Descending into authority by dying to self
- Place of transition into ministry
8-10 let a double portion of your spirit be upon me..
A generation that recognizes that the forerunners are to be honored, not despised because of their weaknesses, is postured to receive honor’s reward.
11-14 My father, my father … Where is the LORD, the God of Elijah?
As we are prepared by God, in His timing and in His way, we grow into the calling which has been set before us. though we will be stretched along they way, we will never be overwhelmed by our lack of preparedness.
