4/29/2018 – Where God Lives – Part 5 – Some Assembly Required

Where God Lives pt5 – Some assembly required

When each member of the church takes responsibility to steward the Grace of God given to him/ her, The assembly of saints can become a time where all the people of God build up one another as we are being built up by one another. Only when each part does its part

The Tabernacle had parts which needed to be assembled – boards were linked with “hands”

Hebrews 10:19-25  not forsaking the assembling together of yourselves

Assembling[episunagōgḗ] — The act of gathering or assembling together, not as a solitary or occasional act, but as customary conduct…not betraying one’s attachment to Jesus Christ and other believers, not avoiding one’s own personal responsibility as part of the body of Christ.

Each bringing a piece of the puzzle – incomplete without it all

Encouraging one another (parakaléō) –this is the verb form of the Holy Spirit’s introductory “name”

John 16:7  “But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper (paráklētos)  will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.

The Paraclete ministers through us with or without  words – making the Spirit manifest means bringing any form of “encouragement”  which benefits someone by meeting their need in a way which draws them nearer to God

  • MOST spiritual gifts have to do with what we SAY: Prophecy is for comfort, edification, encouragement

1 Cor 14:23-26   When you assemble, each one has…

A Psalm – Lit. from the book of Psalms, but also any song — either from the scriptures, or a “new” song which inclines our hearts and minds to the Lord, and invites His presence

  • Helps to give the Spirit something to draw from!
  • We don’t just sing these – we speak to one another with them! (Eph 5:18-19)

A teaching —   an explanatory word which shifts our understanding to help us draw nearer to God by knowing Him more accurately. Can be doctrinal.

a revelation —   revealing the mind and heart of God – unveiling things in the invisible world so as to make them understood by all, and therefore apprehended

a tongue —   speaking in a language inspired by the Spirit. (For corporate gatherings – when it “bubbles up” and there is someone who can interpret

an interpretation —   hearing someone speak in a spiritual language, and you understand its meaning

Let ALL THINGS be done for edification.
