Restoration: fruits of repentance
2 Sam 12 David and Bathsheba
- Happened during the season of David’s Tabernacle!
- David was already an adulterer with 6 wives and concubines (following tradition of region)
- His worst sin was covering his sin himself.
- He knew restitution was the right way to achieve peace/ justice:
- Restitution = “Shalam” to make a covenant of peace/ to make whole and sound again
Psalm 51
- David knows God cannot be “bought” with sacrifices – other than a broken heart
- Yet, once restored, is eager to make sacrifices once again.
Just because God does not require sacrifice, does not mean we should not bring it. It is the motive of the heart which makes the difference.
Luke 19 Zaccheus
- His instinctive reaction: (v.8)
Zaccheus stopped and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, half of my possessions I will give to the poor, and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will give back four times as much.”
- This was how Jesus knew salvation had come!
Matt 5:23-24 leave your sacrifice at the altar…
Restitution = a covenant of peace.
Thank you for forgiving me…
now, how can I make this right?
